I was surprised to read an article this week about Costco making favorable changes. Greenpeace has been waging a seafood campaign against them and finally won. Pretty exciting considering Costco is one of the biggest seafood distributors and buyers in the country. On the list of foods they've stopped carrying: orange roughy, Chilean sea bass, shark, Atlantic halibut, Atlantic cod, Greenland halibut, grouper, monkfish, red fish, skates and rays, swordfish, and bluefin tuna.
It's nice to see a little bit of change on the corporate level.
Also I found an awesome site relating to Trader Joe's seafood practices and the red list seafood items that they carry:

So make sure to check that out.
and I'm sorry but "even Anthony Bourdain says we should eat less meat" won't make me click on your PETA propaganda.

Found out yesterday I secured a position as volunteer for the Palm Springs Photo Festival. Did somebody say "shots?" I'm toootttallly kidding. But it should be really fun. I'm stoked.

Getting more Jewish is always a good thing
I'm happy to announce my involvement in "Let My People Sing" a totally Jewish music and arts festival.
Laurel Johnson is curating a photo exhibit in which a few Art Center Jews are going to be participating. Namely, Jeremy Jackson, Jen Rosenstein, and Patti Peters. Yay!

Soyu non-profit product shot
Sort of an unveiling, I've been working on this product shot for a little while. 4 different exposures, one for highlights, one for liquid glow and one for front label, back label and cap. The label is made of a double layer plastic that spins, revealing information on the bottom layer. The pharmaceutical application for this has already taken off. The drink version is up for an Edison award this year. More on that to come I suppose. Now, for the other 3 flavors.
By the way, it was REALLY hard to remember not to drink an iced tea during the shoot.

Ten Best Ten
Entered this contest yesterday, I think it's kinda interesting that it's partly sponsored by Hipstamatic.

A little gross but pretty cool
Perfect example of the usage of grey water for agriculture in Africa. Not only does it yield a larger crop, but also creates jobs.

Something new on Francesca Woodman
Dying to see this doc, Francesca Woodman has always been one of my favorite photographers. Her work was so haunting and moody.
